Freestyle Focal Fun

In this colorful class we will visit some of my most popular styles of focal beads. We will get creative with various design elements such as silvered ivory and goldstone, murrini and wig-wag cane.

I am offering four different styles but as this may be too much work for one day, I was thinking we could poll the students at the beginning of the class (or before the class) to see what their preferred styles are – and work in that order, in the hope of covering as much as possible.

Subjects:

1. Streaky-Swirly Beads

One of my most popular styles! We will learn to layer different colors with silvered ivory and/or goldstone and swirl them into an interesting composition with bubbles and more....
2. Liquid Beads

This fun and abstract style makes use of layering techniques, silvered ivory and simple murrini.
3. Wig-Wag Beads

Making wig-wag cane and applying it in different ways to create pure freestyle graphic beads.
4. "Faux-Retticello" Beads

This is a unique, intricate and somewhat challenging style, which produces beads with lovely 3-D depth.
  5. Q&A Session

Required knowledge:

General experience in beadmaking, shaping, pulling stringers and twisties and applying them, dot placement, encasing, etc.

Silver Secrets

In this class we will explore some of the endless possibilities of silver. We will use silver in different forms (leaf, foil, wire, mesh) on its own and along with specialty glasses, to create beads from earthy organics to magical beaches to space-like beads from another world.
We will also cover using specialty glasses (Raku and silver glass) on a HotHead!

Subjects:

1. Organics with a Twist

You won’t find these in nature! We will use silver on different backgrounds to create fun organic beads and learn to make silvered twisties, wig-wags and more.
2. Space and Beyond

Using silver reactions and specialty glasses such as Kronos and Raku to create beads from another world.
3. Magical Beaches

We will create abstract “beach” beads with silver, silver glass colors and frit. Use your imagination!
  4. Q&A Session

Required knowledge:

General experience in beadmaking, shaping, pulling stringers and twisties and applying them, dot placement, encasing, etc.
